APSCC Hosts the 13th APSCC Awards: Honoring outstanding achievements in the Asia-Pacific satellite industry

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, October 5, 2016–The Asia-Pacific Satellite Communications Council (APSCC) announced the winners of its 13th APSCC Awards at the APSCC 2016 Satellite Conference & Exhibition held in KL, Malaysia on October 4.

As a collective voice representing the satellite industry of the Asia Pacific region, APSCC has made considerable effort to bring the various entities in the satellite community together for communication and cooperation. In this regards, each year APSCC recognizes outstanding organizations and individuals through the APSCC Awards to honor them for their collaboration, guidance and support in helping APSCC reach its mission as well as for their contribution to the satellite industry.

The APSCC Awards recipients this year were acknowledged for their innovations and achievements in the satellite industry, as well as their leadership in developing and expediting the distribution of new services via satellite in the Asia-Pacific region.

Satellite Executive of the Year in Asia-Pacific Award: Pierre-Jean Beylier, CEO, SpeedCast


PJ has been with SpeedCast since December 2000 and was appointed CEO in July 2004. Under his tenure, SpeedCast has become one of the leading satellite service providers globally, servicing customers in over 90 countries, whether they are on land, at sea or in the air. He spearheaded the Group’s external growth strategy, acquiring 12 companies over the past 3 years and led its successful IPO on the ASX in August 2014. In April 2016, SpeedCast completed the acquisition of NewCom International and in 1 July 2016 the acquisition of ST Teleport. For 1H FY16, Speedcast International achieved 41 percent revenue growth.

PJ has over 20 years of experience in international sales and marketing across Black & Decker in France, and at Rhodia, a French manufacturer of specialized industrial chemicals where he spearheaded global strategy initiatives.

Lifetime Achievement Award:  Richard Bowles, Director ASEAN, Arianespace

Richard Bowles joined Arianespace 1986. It was a challenging time to join Arianespace. At first     working in a marketing support function he quickly moved to sales and took responsibility for Turkey     and Canada. After successfully proving himself in those areas he was given the responsibility of promoting sales in S.E. Asia. In 1991, his efforts were rewarded when the first satellite launch contract  for Arianespace in South East Asia was signed for launching Thaicom 1. Since then many satellite launch contracts have been signed by Arianespace for customers in the region.

Richard opened Arianespace's Asean office in December 1996 and is currently their regional Director for Asean countries.

The 2016 APSCC Awards winners were selected by a committee of APSCC Officers based on nominations submitted by the members of APSCC.

The honorees this year were chosen for contributions made to the satellite market in the region including innovative technologies, best practices and important services.
