Broadband in Brazil Faces its Biggest Challenge

São Paulo, Brazil, June 3, 2014– Broadband access in Brazil is facing a massive challenge as the country prepares to host the FIFA World Cup and the expected millions of soccer fans armed with their mobile phones, smart TVs, PCs and tablets. Participating at today’s Broadband and TV Connect Latin America event in São Paulo, the Broadband Forum said that the World Cup – coupled with 2016’s Olympic Games – is going to test Brazil’s broadband infrastructure across all technologies.

Asia Pacific Compensates for North American Pay TV Revenue Losses

London, UK, May 28, 2014--Global pay TV revenues [subscription fees and on-demand movies and TV episodes] will climb to $209 billion in 2020, up from US$193 billion in 2013, according  to a new report from Digital TV Research. The Digital TV World Revenue  Forecasts report states that the fast growth years are over - as a point of  comparison revenues grew by $24 billion between 2010 and 2013.

Middle East/Africa Generates US$ 8 billion Pay TV revenues

London, UK, May 21, 2014--Digital TV penetration will reach two-thirds of total TV households in the Middle East & Africa region by end-2014; having crossed the halfway mark in 2011,  according to a new report from Digital TV Research. The Digital TV Middle East  & Africa Databook (covering 56 countries) estimates that digital TV penetration  will be 73.8% in the Middle East & North Africa (up from 64.3% in 2010) and 57.1%  in Sub-Saharan Africa (up from only 19.2% in 2010).

16% of Broadband-Enabled Pay-TV Households Use Mobile Device to Control their Television

Plano, Tex., May 16, 2014–According to new data from The Diffusion Group (TDG), 16% of adult broadband users utilize a smart phone or tablet to control their television. More specifically, 12% of adult broadband consumers use a smart phone to control their home television, with 8% using a tablet for this task. Only 4% report using both devices for TV control purposes.

42 Million U.S. Homes Are Connecting to the Internet through TVs or Attached Content Devices

Port Washington, NY, May 16, 2014 – During the first quarter (Q1) of 2014 there were 42 million U.S. households with a TV connected to the Internet, either via a video game console, Blu-ray disc player, streaming media player or the TV itself. According to the NPD Connected Intelligence Connected Home Report,between Q1 2013 and Q1 2014 the number of homes with a TV connected to the Internet grew by 6 million. The vast majority of this increase was driven by growth in the number of homes with Connected TVs and streaming media players.
