The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) today released its 2014 State of the Satellite Industry Report, showing a three percent growth rate in world satellite industry revenues in 2013.Globally, 2013 revenues for the satellite industry totaled US$ 195.2 billion, up from US$ 188.8 billion the previous year.

Eutelsat Communications today reported revenues for the third quarter and nine months ended 31 March 31, 2014. Revenues for the first nine months were up by 2.5%, at constant currency excluding non-recurring and Satmex revenues. Third quarter revenues were up by 1.5%, and by 6% including Satmex, which was consolidated from January 1, 2014. The total order backlog stood at the  €5.8 billion.

Satellite services provider SpeedCast Ltd today announced the buyout of SatComms Australia, a leading satellite solutions provider in Australia. The acquisition will provide SpeedCast with an expanded presence in Australia.

SatComms Australia is a specialized provider of mobile and fixed satellite solutions in the Australian market and in the Asia-Pacific region. The company services customers in the natural resources, maritime and Government sectors. SatComms is based in Queensland, Australia with a teleport and operations center in Henderson, Western Australia.

CASBAA returns to Singapore for its annual gathering exploring the latest developments and issues affecting the satellite industry in the Asia Pacific. Taking place on June 16 at the Shangri-La Singapore, the CASBAA Satellite Industry Forum 2014 will provide a platform for leaders from the satellite sector to come together and share their knowledge and experiences.

Norsat International Inc., a provider of innovative communication solutions that enable the transmission of data, audio and video for remote and challenging applications, today reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014.   Total sales were US$ 9.1 million, compared to US$ 8.4 million in Q1 2013.

In the first quarter of 2014, Telenor Group reported revenues of NOK 26.5 Billion (approxiametely US$ 4.4 Billion), representing an organic revenue growth of 1.5%. EBITDA before other items was NOK 9.3 Billion, the EBITDA margin was 35% and operating cash flow was NOK 5.6 billion.

Asia’s demand for fast and reliable connected services ‘on-the-go’ is relentless. As a result of this prevalent trend, which is seen not only in developed regions but also in emerging and rural parts of the world as well, the need for high capacity broadband and fibre broadband networks is ever-increasing. This is further fuelled by a steep increase in consumption of data and entertainment on mobile devices, with mobile data traffic in Asia Pacific expected to exceed the rest of the world by 2017.

ITC Global, a provider of satellite communications to remote and harsh environments announced today that it completed a successful first quarter 2014, signing over US$ 30 million in new long-term service contracts.  The sales come from several new customers, as well as renewals and upgrades from existing clients. The first three months of the year also marked the successful deployment of 27 custom networks for clients across all three of the company’s primary markets – energy, mining, and maritime.  

With cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) connections in Asia expected to  more than triple in the coming years, local wireless operators have banded together in a group dedicated to facilitating M2M deployments in the region.The installed base of wireless M2M connections in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region will rise to 109.0 million in 2017, up from 32.6 million in 2012, according to IHS Technology .

By 2017, Asia-Pacific is set to be the second-largest regional M2M market, behind only Europe in total cumulative cellular M2M connection volume.
