CANAL+ Group is acquiring M7, one of the largest independent pay-TV companies in Europe operating in Benelux and Central Europe. M7 is owned by Astorg, a leading European private equity firm. This acquisition is subject to the European Commission’s approval.

M7 is an aggregator and distributor of local and international channels via satellite and OTT platforms. It has developed a presence in the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania where it has a total of 3 million subscribers, of which 0.8 million to a basic access package.

While our commercial space and satellite industries are undergoing a burst not unlike the roar caused by Mount Vesuvius when it blows, the long hours on the show floor, the stream of panels and the happy chatter at networking events yields an inevitable echo chamber.  satellite-2019.jpgIt’s hardly surprising that two topics dominated Satellite 2019 in Washington this year, were: the low earth orbit (LEO) constellations, and 5G.  Topics that are constantly in the news, and are in fact related.  Although many of the applications do not require it, low latency is one of the specifications of the 5G standard; therefore many operators feel that the LEO constellations are necessary for the satellite industry to be fully integrated into 5G.

Eutelsat Communications (ISIN: FR0010221234 - Euronext Paris: ETL) today reported slight increase in revenues of US$377.61 million (€337 million), up by 0.7% year-on-year for the third quarter on resilience of broadcast and stable video revenues. Revenues for the five Operating Verticals (ie, excluding ‘Other Revenues’), however, were down by 4%.

Rodolphe Belmer, CEO said the third quarter of 2018-19 saw the return to growth in Broadcast on a quarter-on-quarter basis, an improvement in the US Government renewal rate and commercial wins in Maritime  Mobility.
