A new study from Juniper Research has found that global consumer spend on digital content will reach US$ 202 Billion in 2018, up by 10% on this year’s total of US$ 184 billion. The research found that SVoD (Subscription Video on Demand) services will be a key driver of growth, with major OTT (Over The Top) players such as Netflix and Amazon committing budgets of more than US$ 5 Billion to original content over the coming year. Meanwhile, Apple and Facebook are each expected to invest at least US$ 1 Billion for the first time.

Moving to consolidate its presence in the Middle East, Eutelsat has acquired Noorsat, one of the leading satellite service providers in the Middle East, from Bahrain’s Orbit Holding Group, in a deal valued at US$ 75 million (€63.4m).

Established in 2004, Noorsat is the premier distributor of Eutelsat capacity in the Middle East, serving blue-chip customers and providing services for over 300 TV channels almost exclusively from Eutelsat’s market-leading Middle East and North Africa neighbourhoods at 7/8° West and 25.5° East.
