Myanmar’s broadcasting industry is set for significant changes as the government moves forward with a new broadcasting law which is nearing completion. In the run-up to the return of the hugely successful CommuniCast event and Myanmar’s second Satellite Forum (17-19 November 2015 at Myanmar Event Park, Yangon), the Myanmar Government has acted on its plans to develop one of the country’s key industry sectors with a new broadcasting law to open up the country’s media industry and encourage the distribution of new services.

Spanish satellite communications operator HISPASATis organising the HISPASAT 4K International Festival, one of the first film competitions in the world to exclusively feature short films shot in 4K.  The call for entries will be open from July 14 to September 23, 2015. The HISPASAT 4K International Festival is open to films produced in any country, in any genre, with a maximum duration of 20 minutes and shot in 4K format.

The following categories and awards have been established: 

- HISPASAT AWARD FOR BEST SHORT FILM: 3,000 € + Samsung SUHD TV.

C-COM Satellite Systems Inc. (TSXV: CMI), a global provider of mobile auto-deploying satellite antenna systems, announced today financial results for its second quarter ended May 31, 2015. The company has generated revenues of CDN$ 3,101,579 and a net after tax profit of CDN$ 313,201 or 1 cent per share. This compared with revenues of CDN$ 3,754,738 and a net after tax profit of 782,188 or 2 cents per share as reported in 2014, representing a decrease of 17.4% and 60% respectively.

SpeedCast International Limited oday announced that it has acquired the assets of the teleport and satellite services business of NewSat from its receivers. The assets include the land & buildings at NewSat’s teleport facilities in Adelaide and Perth and the associated plant & equipment, as well as most of the customer and supplier contracts.

SpeedCast is also retaining 20 key employees, in the operations & engineering department and in sales, including in the US.

Registration is now open for in the 2nd Latin American Broadcasting Business Forum, to be held on August 25 and 26 in São Paolo, Bazil.The event is organized by SET and the Asociación Internacional de Radiodifusión (A.I.R.), with the support of the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (ABERT) and the Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters of the State of São Paulo (AESP). The Forum will be held as part of the SET EXPO, the largest broadcast and new media business and technology event in Latin America.
