The personal entertainment experience has embarked on a significant shift now that on-demand delivery of video is widely available worldwide and to an increasing number of connected devices. IMS Research forecasts that in 2016, over-the-top (OTT) video services will generate $16.4 billion in 2016 and video-on-demand (VOD) services from pay-TV operators will generate another $14.7 billion, for a combined $31.1 billion in on-demand revenues.
Mobile Digital Television is on track to reach two-thirds of U.S. households by early 2012, as dozens of TV broadcast stations are now installing new transmission equipment that will allow live, local TV signals to reach viewers wherever they go in a local market. Based on a new survey of member plans, the Open Mobile Video Coalition of America's (OMVC) broadcasters announced that 96 stations are now on-the-air with Mobile DTV and that the total number of Mobile DTV stations is expected to grow to 126 in 48 markets by the end of the year.
Applications have dominated the news in the smartphone and tablet worlds for some time but with the advent of “smart TVs” consumers are now rapidly adopting online TV applications that are integrated into their connected TVs. A new In-Stat research survey estimates that over 60% of these connected households will use a TV app at least once per week.
On-demand TV revenues from movies and TV programs (and excluding revenues from other sources such as sports and adult and also excluding SVOD packages) will reach US$5.7 billion in 2016, up from US$3.6 billion in 2010 and US$2.1 billion in 2006, according to the report published by Digital TV Research.

A new report from Juniper Research has found that annual revenues derived from mobile cloud based enterprise services are expected to reach $39 billion by 2016 as mobile network operators increasingly offer corporate clients an array of unified communications suites.
Digital TV Research forecasts that the number of pay DTH homes will be 195 million across 73 countries by end-2016, up from 139 million at end-2010. The Satellite TV Forecasts report estimates that penetration was 10.3% of TV households at end-2010, and will reach 13.1% by 2016. India will lead the sector with 45 million pay DTH homes in 2016, followed by the US with 36 million. However, penetration will be highest in South Africa (47%) and Ireland (41%).
Worldwide set top box revenue, as a whole, will decline slightly in 2011 over 2010, with Latin America and Middle East/Africa the only regions showing any increase in shipments. However, despite the general maturation of the market, IP set top box shipments are forecast to increase by over 1 million units in 2011 according to In-Stat.
