The Spanish satellite telecommunications operator HISPASAT and Intelsat has expanded their collaboration with respect to capabilities at the 55.5ºW orbital position. The agreement, which has allowed both companies to enhance their position in Latin America, has been consolidated for the long term so that the two operators can grow at this orbit position and offer new services, especially DTH services.

The gay-lifestyle television channel OUTtv has chosen satellite operator HISPASAT as the infrastructure provider for distributing its content to top cable networks in Europe. Israeli advanced television services provider, RRMedia, which currently uses HISPASAT satellites to distribute content in both America and Europe for over five years, will uplink the signals. 

Globecast has been selected to provide content management and playout for brand new equestrian lifestyle channel Ride TV. This is the first new channel to be launched since Globecast’s Media Factory investment in Culver City, benefitting from more flexible and efficient content management and delivery.

Globecast’s satellite and fiber capacity in North America and the LatAm region, along with its capability to handle the end-to-end service provision, from content ingest, scheduling and origination through to playout and distribution, in-house was a key factor for Ride TV.

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its New York-based subsidiary, Comtech PST Corp., signed a Purchase Agreement valued at $6.0 million and received multiple orders pursuant to the Agreement totaling approximately $3.7 million from a major domestic OEM to supply solid-state high-power amplifiers. The balance of orders under the agreement are expected to be received over the next fifteen months.

Comtech EF Data has received a US$ 1.6 million order for satellite infrastructure equipment and professional services. The equipment will be utilized by a telecommunications service provider to roll out a new Pan-African satellite-based mobile backhaul and international trunking network. The network hub will be based in the United Arab Emirates, and this first phase of deployment will be to remote sites in Chad and South Sudan.

Globecast today announced that it has been selected by Scripps Networks Interactive to provide distribution, playout, content preparation and select post production services for the company’s portfolio of networks across Asia-Pacific. The first flight to use Thaicom’s new satellite-based In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) service in Asia-Pacific took off from Bangkok Don Mueang International Airport today. The service, which uses Ku-band and is now fully operational, provides broadband on commercial flights for Thailand’s number one premium low cost airline, Nok Air.

Journalists and regular passengers on board Nok Air flight DD7510 from Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport to Phuket, Thailand, had the opportunity to be the first to use the service and access the Internet while airborne.
