Brazilian Pay TV Subscribers Grew 14.5% in the first half of 2012

During the first half of 2012 subscribers to pay TV services in Brazil grew 14.5% compared to the same period last year, totaling 14.5 million subscribers, according to the Brazilina National Telecommunications Agency ANATEL (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicaciones).

Of that total, 58.1% subscriberd to Direct-t-Home (DTH) services , 40.6% cable television and the rest MMDS.

The leading Pay-TV providers are NET and Embratel, which together account for 7.82 million subscribers, representing 53.83% of the market, followed by Sky / Direct TV, with 4.48 million  (30.79%), Telefónica/Abril, with 659,000  (4.54%), Oi, with 486,000  (3.35%), GVT, 220,000  (1.51%), Algar, with 105,000  (0.72%) and ViaCabo, with 101,000 subscribers (0.7%).
