Spain’s satellite communications operator, Hispasat, said it has completed deploying 4,000 antennas capable of delivering broadband service making it the market leader in satellite residential broadband market in Spain.
As part of the Avanza I and Avanza II plans of the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, Hispasat offers advanced broadband services to Spanish municipalities which, until now, are without Internet access or have costly and low-speed access. Hispasat’s program with the Ministry includes a full subsidy for installation and purchase of the equipment through the Avanza Plan funds for infrastructure.
Satellite technology represents an important advance to consolidate universal Internet access in Spain. The via-satellite solution provided by Hispasat allows Internet access to be established independently of the geographic location of the user, thus reducing the digital gap which existed between rural areas and large cities.
Coverage includes the entire Spanish territory through the Hispasat 1E satellite, which provides such a high-powered beam.
The company said Hispasat satellites combined with the technological capacities of the equipment used allows very efficient modulations to be achieved with speeds of up to 100 MB per 36 MHz transponder. Hispasat offers speeds of 1 to 8 megabytes, starting from 25 Euros per month. It also offers reduced-size, easy-to install antennas to users.
In collaboration with Gilat Satellite Networks, Hispasat said they were able to develop solutions adapted to the specific needs of customers resulting in increased broadband speed and ease of use at reduced costs.
