Oil and Gas Communications Europe Conference to Focus on Mission Critical Networking

Aberdeen, Scotland, May 12, 2011

The GVF Oil & Gas Communications Series of conferences continues to grow apace, with the most recent event in the Series, the 11th, being held in Brazil over 19th & 20th April to much acclaim amongst the attending representatives of the communications networking solution end-users and providers. Now, the Series is approaching its 12th conference, to take place in Scotland over 17th & 18th May.

The ‘Oil & Gas Communications Europe 2011: Digital Applications & Communications Dynamics from the North Sea to the Arctic Ocean’ conference will take place at the Aberdeen Marriott Hotel, Dyce, Aberdeen, with a programme that will once again look beyond the territory of the mature hydrocarbon-bearing sectors of the North Sea, into the far northern latitudes of the Arctic Ocean region, and which is being held in association with Harris CapRockArqivaIntelsatCobhamTelenorEutelsat, SpeedCast, Advantech Wireless, Hermes Datacomms and C-COM Satellite Systems.

‘Oil & Gas Communications Brazil 2011: Digital Oilfield & Gasfield Imperatives Onshore, Offshore, and in Deepwater’ attracted the attendance of some 130 participants to a programme which examined the role of satellite, and satellite-wireless, technologies and services in bringing extended mission critical operational success to deepwater oil & gas fields, through a range of presentations and panel discussions involving such organizations as PetrobrasHarris CapRockIntelsatGilat Satellite NetworksTelespazio BrazilHughesRigNetAdvantech WirelessSpeedCastC-COM Satellite SystemsHispamar SatellitesKVH IndustriesBaker HughesStar OneThales Alenia Space, and Harris Brazil.

The Aberdeen conference will include the contributions – as speakers and/or delegates – of representatives of over 40 organisations including Access Partnership; Advantech Wireless; Arqiva Broadcast & Media; Avanti Communications; Baker Hughes; British Petroleum; Broadband Technology 2000; C-COM Satellite Systems; Centrica; Cobham; Codan; Eutelsat; Gilat Satellite Networks; GVF; Harris CapRock; Hermes Datacomms; Hughes Europe; Infotechnics; Integral Systems Europe; Intelsat; Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies Ltd; NESSCO; Northern Sky Research; Oil & Gas Networks; Prosafe; RigNet; Romantis Communications; Satellite Action Plan Regulatory Working Group (SAP-REG); Satellite Interference Reduction Group (sIRG); SES; Shell E&P Europe; Shell IT International; SpeedCast; Subsea 7; TecOffshore; Telenor Satellite Broadcasting; Thales Alenia Space; VeVoe; ViaSat; and, YR 20.

The dialogue at ‘Oil & Gas Communications Europe 2011: Digital Applications & Communications Dynamics from the North Sea to the Arctic Ocean’ will examine the role of satellite, and satellite-wireless, technologies and services in bringing extended mission critical operational success to the established oil & gas fields of the British and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea – the E&P challenges of which the have been understood for decades – and will additionally explore the communications imperatives and the delivery of networking solutions for the extreme northerly boundaries of Europe’s new hydrocarbon E&P opportunity, an opportunity which presents a new set of unique and challenging geographical and climate conditions to the Arctic Nations of Europe – Denmark, Norway and Russia – which have variously begun to lay claim to the ocean floor hydrocarbon resource potential of the Arctic Basin rock strata,

Martin Jarrold, GVF Chief of International Programme Development and Conference Chairman noted that “As global climate change warms the environment of the Arctic latitudes, and as the Arctic Ocean is progressively opening-up to year-round maritime navigation – thus including the positioning of semi-submersible and floating drilling platforms – the satellite and wireless communications industry must begin to gear-up for, and to respond to, this new business opportunity.”

The Aberdeen conference will include the contribution of NSR as Conference Content Partner.

In order of appearance in the conference programme, the Aberdeen speaker line-up will be:
