Nearly 100 million Pay-TV Subscribers in Latin America by 2018
Buenos Aires, Argentina, July 1, 2013--According to the analysis by Dataxis, the Pay-TV market of the seven biggest markets of Latin America will total 98.32 million subscribers in 2018. This figure will equal to a penetration of 68.1% over the total of Homes with TV; almost 3.6 times what was registered in 2008.
Brazil, Mexico and Peru appeared as the countries with the greatest perspective of percentage evolution towards 2018, due to their relative lower rates of development. In turn, on the medium term, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia would be the four biggest Pay-TV markets by volume of clients. Between the four they would amount to 87.9% of the subscribers in 2018.
Towards 2018 it is expected that 93.1% of the Pay-TV subscribers of the region would be subscribed to some Digital option. Dataxis notes that DTH is the option with the biggest growth in the region and that in 2018 it will amount to almost 60% of the subscribers. Dataxis identifies Digital Cable as the second option in the market with regards to subscriber concentration in 2018; almost 29% of the total. Dataxis notes that IPTV would receive close to 4.5% of Subscribers.
Dataxis analyzes that between 2008 and 2012, a strong concentration of the business was registered. The 10 main Pay-TV Groups in the region held 76.6% of subscribers; 7 points more than in 2008. In turn, the two Groups with the greatest growth rate in the period analyzed were América Móvil and DirecTV; number one and two respectively by quantity by quantity of subscribers.
