WTA Releases new Report on "The AI-Driven Teleport"

New York City, NY, September 15, 2026

New York City, NY, September 15, 2026--The World Teleport Association (WTA) today released The AI-Driven Teleport, a new research report that explores where teleportAI Driven Teleport WTA and satellite operators were deploying generative AI in their customer-facing, engineering and operations departments in 2024, and what results they were seeing so far from investment in a still-emerging technology. They were using it to automate marketing and customer service and assist with code development and cybersecurity. They were buying standard business services from third parties and building their own systems to manage unique needs, based on past experience with machine learning.

In this report, WTA revisits this topic in 2026 with member executives to uncover lessons learned, new applications and how the transformative impact promised by AI promoters have played out.

“AI is moving rapidly from experimentation to real-world application across the teleport and satellite industry,” said Randall Barney, Executive Director of the World Teleport Association. “This report examines where AI is delivering measurable value today and how operators can use it to improve operations, empower their teams and create new opportunities for customers. The AI-driven teleport is no longer a future concept—it is beginning to take shape now.”

The report is free for WTA Members and available for purchase by others. Members may directly download the report by following this link and logging in with their user name and password.

An industry executive stated “The most measurable value today is coming from AI augmenting operators and improving operational efficiency, detection speed, and service reliability, rather than replacing human decision-making altogether.”

An industry executive stated “If IP traffic is your future, then you have to be able to integrate your data with the terrestrial guys. If you’re not tied into the 5G guys, the future is going to be difficult.”

Since 1985, the World Teleport Association (www.worldteleport.org) has focused on improving the business of satellite communications from the ground up.
