ND SATCOM Launches the New SKYWAN Product Generation: SKYWAN 7X for Defence Missions

Immenstaad, February 26, 2026

The GovSatCom Conference 2026 in Luxemburg is one of the leading international conferences for mission-critical satellite communications in the government and defence sectors. Attendees can experience the future of VSAT solutions at ND SATCOM's booth on 26 February 2026. The major highlight will be the launch of the next generation of the proven SKYWAN platform: SKYWAN 7X, a version prioritising defence use, developed by ND SATCOM, one of the leading innovators of satellite-based communication solutions.

"With SKYWAN 7X, we are raising military-centric satellite communications to the next level," said Dirk Walther, Head of Business Unit Defence at ND SATCOM. "The importance of information superiority is constantly increasing. Our customers in the defence sector thus expect a system that works even under adverse conditions and one that ensures smooth communication." SKYWAN 7X builds on the successful model SKYWAN 5G and combines its strengths with an even more robust design and functional enhancements that are consistently geared to military requirements. "In addition to field deployment suitability, we are also focused on the existing networks of our military customers," emphasised Mr. Walther. "SKYWAN 7X is backward compatible with the previous model and integrates seamlessly into existing network configurations." A user-friendly network management system (NMS) allows networks to be managed centrally and configuration changes or updates to be rolled out in real time “over the air.” In addition, the integrated software-defined radio (SDR) makes a wide range of frequencies, standards, and protocols available, allowing networks to be flexibly adapted to current and future requirements without hardware intervention.

Built for Extreme Conditions

SKYWAN 7X was designed for operational use in challenging environmental conditions. The hardware meets AECTP standards for shock, vibration, and EMC, thus achieving high requirements for robustness, resilience, and compliance with strict defence standards.

Protected Against Cyber Threats

To protect sensitive information from signal reconnaissance, manipulation, and radio interference (jamming), SKYWAN 7X relies on secure transmission methods.

In addition to the X.509 certificate architecture and end-to-end encryption, the system has a separate management port that strictly separates network operation from user data traffic. Furthermore, the SKYWAN 7X radio link is robust against interference signals and electronic attacks based on field-proven SKYWAN technology methods. This consistent security-by-design philosophy ensures that SKYWAN-based communication networks maintain their integrity and functionality even under hostile influence.

Highly Available When It Matters

SKYWAN 7X is designed for maximum network availability in terms of both software and hardware: The hubless architecture enables direct communication between the individual nodes of the network without having to go through a central control node. This means that signal transmission remains functional even if one or more stations are unavailable. Redundant power supplies (1+1 redundancy) further increase reliability.

MeshIQ - Intelligent SKYWAN Network Control

With MeshIQ SKYWAN 7X continues the mesh concept successfully introduced with SKYWAN 5G: At its core, MeshIQ continuously monitors the transmission parameters between the network nodes and automatically adjusts bandwidth, coding, and modulation to dynamic conditions such as weather or antenna size. This means that SKYWAN technology always offers the best combination of latency, throughput, and stability.

SKYWAN 7X Launch at the GovSatCom Conference 2026 in Luxemburg

SKYWAN 7X and the launch campaign “Because Every Signal Counts” will be presented to interested industry professionals for the first time at the GovSatCom Conference 2026. "With its combination of strategic exchange, industry focus, and international reach, GovSatCom offers the ideal stage for the presentation of our new SKYWAN Defence model," said Mr. Walther.

ND SATCOM, a Diamond Sponsor of GovSatCom, will be available at its booth for technical discussions and demonstrations relating to SKYWAN technology and modern VSAT solutions on 26 February 2026, European Convention Center Luxembourg.
