In-Flight Wi-Fi Revenues to Surpass $1.5 Billion in 2015

Scottsdale, Ariz., October 3, 2011--Over the past year there has been significant growth in both the usage rates of in-flight broadband and number of planes deployed. With new providers now entering the market, growth is sure to continue in the coming year. Additionally, what has been a US-centric market began to see an expansion of borders with deployments in Europe growing over the past year and new activity in the Middle East. Research firm  In-Stat forecasts that in-flight Wi-Fi revenues will surpass the $1.5 billion mark in 2015.

IPTV will reach 60 million subscriptions in the EU by 2020

London, UK, September 28, 2011--As broadband subscriptions continue to grow in the EU27, Point Topic has today announced analysis on how many subscribers there will be and how many will take an IPTV service as well. According to the leading global broadband analyst firm, IPTV is set to treble by 2020.  “We’re projecting just over 160 million broadband subscribers in the EU27 by 2020 and just over one in three will take an IPTV subscription,” says Oliver Johnson, CEO at Point Topic.

Global telecom revenue expected to reach US$2.1 trillion by 2016

St. Laurent, Quebec, Canada, September 26, 2011--Global telecom services revenue reached US$1.9 trillion in 2010, representing a 4.5% increase, an improvement compared with 2009, when revenue growth had declined to 3.8%, according to a new report by Hot Telecom. Growth is expected to decline again starting in 2011 up to 2016 and telecom service revenue growth is therefore projected to slow to a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.5% and revenue is expected to reach US$2.1 trillion in 2015, having surpassed the US$2.0 trillion mark in 2013.

Ericsson Presents TV & Video Consumer Trend Report 2011

Stockholm, Sweden, September 5, 2011--Ericsson ConsumerLab has released the results of its annual study “TV & Video Consumer Trend Report 2011,” showing that people are spending slightly less time watching scheduled broadcast TV, and that they are spending more time watching streamed on-demand TV online. More than 44 (38) percent of the respondents reported watching internet-based on-demand TV more than once per week, while about 80 percent watch broadcast TV more than once per week.

IP Set Top Box Shipments to Increase Over 1 Million in 2011

Scottsdale, Ariz., September 1, 2011--Worldwide set top box revenue, as a whole, will decline slightly in 2011 over 2010, with Latin America and Middle East/Africa the only regions showing any increase in shipments. However, despite the general maturation of the market, IP set top box shipments are forecast to increase by over 1 million units in 2011 according to In-Stat.

3D-Enabled TV Sets to Grow 500% Worldwide in 2011

Dublin, Ireland, August 31, 2011-- 3D content providers do not need to worry about consumers being unable to view their 3D content. 50% more Satellites to be Launched in the Decade Ahead

Government demand continues to drive the market, but remains concentrated in a handful of countries

Paris, August 25, 2011 – Euroconsult, forecast today that an estimated 1,145 satellites will be built for launch during the next ten years (2011-2020), 51% more satellites than the previous decade. These projections come from Euroconsult’s just-released “Satellites to be Built & Launched by 2020, World Market Survey.” According to the report, now in its 14th edition, revenues from the manufacture and launch of these 1,145 satellites will be worth $196 billion worldwide, of which 70% can be attributed to government demand.
