HISPASAT and MEO to Broadcast Champions League Final and UEFA Euro in 4K

Madrid, Spain, May 18 2016-- HISPASAT, the spanish satellite communications operator, and Portugal Telecom television’s MEO platform have reached an agreement to broadcast in 4K format for the Champions League Final on Sport TV, as well as eight important matches of the UEFA Euro 2016 on the RTP 4K channel. Thanks to this collaboration with HISPASAT, MEO satellite channel customers will be able to enjoy the most remarkable football moments of the year with the highest image quality and the latest technology.

The first match (Real Madrid – Atlético de Madrid) will be broadcasted in Ultra High Definition (UHD) on Sport TV, disputing the Champions League Final in Milan on May 28. Following so, the matches between France and Hungary, the quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals, which will be held in Paris on July 10. Both sporting events will be broadcasted on the Portuguese MEO platform, via the Hispasat 30W-5 satellite.

Additionally, the agreement between the two companies, which aims to promote broadcasting in UHD, includes airing the Hispasat 4K television channel – exclusively for UHD content – within the Portuguese platform’s service offering.

The Ultra High Definition channel quadruples the number of megapixels that conventional high-definition screens contain. Therefore, the resolution is four times greater than conventional high definition and offers image sharpness, color gradation and texture definition that provides the viewer an extremely high sense of quality and a more immersive experience.
