AMOS-17 Set for Launch on August 3

Cape Canaveral, FL, July 31, 2019 — AMOS satellite fleet operator Spacecom has announced that the AMOS-17 satellite is in the final stages of its prelaunch preparation for its scheduled liftoff on August 3.

The satellite will be launched to geostationary transfer orbit from Cape Canaveral, FL, USA on a Falcon-9 launch vehicle by SpaceX . This will be SpaceX's 10th mission of the year and will be the first launch of the year with no planned landing.

This mission is provided by SpaceX to Spacecom for free due to the mishap of Amos-6, which destroyed the satellite and precluded the launch. This mission will launch from SLC-40 at Cape Canaveral AFS on a Falcon 9, and the first-stage booster will be expended.

AMOS-17 will operate from 17° East and will expand and strengthen Spacecom’s coverage of the growing satellite service markets in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. AMOS-17 will offer Ka-band, Ku-band, and C-Band services.

AMOS-17 C-band uniquely combines the benefits of HTS – High Throughput Satellite, with C-band’ superior service availability, making it the best match for any Sub-Sahara project. It is predicted that Africa will have over 1.5 billion residents by 2025, with the largest amount of young people in the world.

AMOS-17 will be a state-of-the-art multi-band high-throughput satellite, utilizing Boeing’s advanced digital processor platform, that will provide reliable and flexible satellite solutions and offer a significant competitive advantage for our customers.

It will have a combination of broad regional beams and high throughput spot beams to maximize throughput and spectral efficiency.
The combination of the inherent flexibility of the digital platform with the mix of fixed and steerable beams ensures fast response to changing customers’ needs.

The AMOS-17 satellite will provide a great fit for Spacecom’s expansion strategy, offering an innovative design with capabilities that provide flexible service offerings to meet the growing demands of our customers.

The company said that AMOS-17’s launch represents “important global cooperation and the application of innovative technologies for the creation of new services” to Africa.

Spacecom has years of experience working with African governments and commercial enterprises such as in internet, data, video and broadcast. Currently, the AMOS-7 and AMOS-4 satellites provide a range of services to the content.

Spacecom CEO and president, David Pollack said AMOS-17’s launch is a meaningful and strategic milestone that boosts Israel’s continued presence in space and our corporate growth. “AMOS-17 is a project with forward-looking technologies and provides a significant boost for our satellite fleet’s capacity, operational flexibility, expansion to more regions and technological superiority. Providing unique Turnkey Solutions for a range of uses will provide our customers with key competitive advantages and expand our partners and Spacecom’s corporate opportunities in the years to come,” he said.
