Hispasat Boosts Satellite Capacity with Algeria ISP Divona
MADRID, June 28, 2018 -- Hispasat, the Spanish satellite telecommunications operator, has signed an agreement with the Algerian satellite Internet service provider Divona Algerie to provide remote control service in the Medgaz underwater pipeline, which connects Algeria and Spain. The service, which is already operational by means of Hispasat capacity on the satellites at 30º West orbital position; it connects three points, two in the Spanish province of Almería and the other in the Algerian region of Bou Chekif.
This is the first agreement that Hispasat has signed for the provision of services in Algeria, a strategic country in North Africa, due to its relevance as an energy supplier in Southern Western-European countries. Demand for satellite capacity in the Middle East and North Africa is expected to grow steadily in the coming years at an average annual rate of 1.3 per cent between 2018 and 2026 for Ku-band services and 32 per cent for HTS capabilities*.
The entry into service of the Hispasat 30W-6 satellite, scheduled for the end of June, will expand and improve the coverage of Hispasat in this region, which will allow it to offer a better response to this growing demand.
