Hispasat Participates in RTVE's “Journalism Innovation Hub” to Boost Digital Transformation of News Bulletins

Madrid, Spain, July 6, 2018 -- Spanish satellite operator Hispasat is participating in the “Journalism Innovation Hub” project promoted by RTVE. The project has started the first operational tests as part of the 41st edition of the Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival.

The goal of this project is to progress further in the digital transformation of television news bulletins, imposed by the new audiovisual paradigm which has been conditioned by the appearance of new information technologies and the change in audiovisual content consumption habits.

Hispasat's participation in the project will involve providing capacity from the recently unveiled Hispasat 30W-6 satellite, as well as IP connectivity, to provide live coverage on the Mobile Journalism (MOJO) stages. The use of satellite communications in this case is essential, as it ensures high capacity IP connectivity in the city of Almagro, where the land-based communications infrastructures and cellular network capacity are insufficient, becoming overwhelmed during the Festival.

The “Journalism Innovation Hub” project aims to explore innovative forms of communication to broadcast news, integrating advanced networks and systems, working in the cloud in a totally different manner than the traditional way and incorporating the tools and possibilities offered by new technologies into the process. This includes the entire chain comprising the audiovisual news bulletin service, from detecting and selecting the newsworthy events and recording the news itself, until drafting, editing, presenting, publishing and, finally, archiving the news.

Together with RTVE and Hispasat, the initiative relies on the participation of key companies in these processes, such as Telefónica, Google, Watchity, VSN and Brainstorm Multimedia, among others. All these companies will provide their innovations throughout the project's two-year duration to adapt the communications process for audiovisual news bulletins to the new digital environment.
