HISPASAT Unveils the Future of Satellite Television in IBC 2018

Madrid, Spain, Sept. 14, 2018 ― HISPASAT, the Spanish satellite-based communications operator, will present its new technologies for the audiovisual market in its stand in the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) 2018, which starts today in Amsterdam.

At its stand at IBC, HISPASAT will give several live demonstrations of the new Direct-to-Home (DTH) television platform, Pantelio, which is broadcast in Slovakia and the Czech Republic and which was officially presented a few days ago. The Pantelio platform will be distributed in these two countries through the Hispasat 30W-5 satellite, located in the 30º West position, one of HISPASAT's most important orbital positions for video for Europe and America. Pantelio is initially offering 40 SD and 60 HD channels, including premium contents such as the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Eurosport, Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, as well as numerous regional channels.

During the fair, the visitors to HISPASAT's stand will be able to enjoy the latest technologies that Pantelio has to offer, including a demo of Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) and on-demand video and catch-up TV services to stay up to date with everything that is broadcast and to be able to choose the contents at any time. For this demo, HISPASAT is relying on the support of Panaccess, the platform's service and technology supplier.

HISPASAT will also present an advanced solution to provide on-demand video via satellite (Push VoD) in the IBC, which will allow the broadcasters that operate with HISPASAT to offer their clients a complete user experience combining linear and on-demand services. The solution enables previously selected contents to be automatically broadcast and recorded, so that users can enjoy their favourite series and films at any time, without the need for an internet connection. For the demo, HISPASAT is relying on the collaboration of Quadrille and SmarDTV.

The audiovisual market is one of the key markets for HISPASAT, where it is the leader in Spanish and Portuguese content  distribution in  Europe and Latin America  and broadcasts more than 1,200 television channels to more than 50 million users through the DTH (Direct-to-Home) and other cable and fibre optic platforms connected to the HISPASAT satellite network.

Each year this fair brings together more than 75,000 professionals and companies from more than 140 companies related with the audiovisual telecommunications sector to display their latest and most innovative products and services.

All this and much more can be seen starting today until 18 September in HISPASAT's stand in IBC 2018: 1C37.
