Satellite operator Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat) signed a contract with Airbus Defense and Space to manufacture Badr-8 satellite, which is the first of its 7th generation satellites, expected to be launched at the beginning of 2023. 

BADR-8, as a 7th Generation satellite, will be based on the-state-of-the-art Airbus Eurostar Neo electric orbit raising platform giving access to a wide range of launchers , covering  Europe, Middle East, Africa and central Asia.

On July 31, 2020, two communications satellites, Express-80 and Express-103, ordered by the Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC), were launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome. The new satellites were put into the target geo-transfer orbit and later will be placed in the geostationary orbit at 80° and 96.5° E.

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ: CMTL) announced today that during its fourth quarter of fiscal 2020, its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., which is part of Comtech's Commercial Solutions segment, received $1.3 million in orders for advanced satellite modems, WAN optimization and redundancy switches. The equipment will be utilized to support cellular LTE backhaul for a service provider in the Middle East.

HISPASAT, the Spanish satellite telecommunications operator, has joined the 3GPP group (3rd Generation Partnership Project), a global association that develops standards for mobile communications, in order to work on the integration of satellites into the 5G ecosystem that is being developed. The project unites seven telecommunications standard development organisations and has developed multiple mobile standards, from 3G to 4G and now 5G.

Advantech Wireless Technologies has signed a multi-year agreement to supply a major Satcom system integrator with its Summit II high power SSPA systems.

“Advantech has been contracted by a major satcom system integrator to support a multi-year program. We have received the initial purchase order of more than $2 million dollars (CAD). Under the terms of the agreement, Advantech will supply its Summit II high power SSPA systems to the integrator’s project”,  explained Tony Radford, Advantech’s VP Global Sales.
