A Billion Connected Consumer Electronic (CE) Devices by 2016

London, Janaury 21, 2011--A  new report entitled “Two Worlds Connected: Consumer Electronics Meets Mobile Broadband” from the UMTS Forum predicts that there will be  one billion Consumer Electronics (CE) devices connected to mobile broadband networks by 2016. While the market for connected devices remains embryonic, the study argues that CE device connectivity will outstrip overall wireless market growth in the next five years. This trend is signalled by a wave of device categories – from e-Book readers to satnav devices – that are already demanding access to cellular networks.

Installed Base of “Smart TV” Web-Enabled Home Consumer Electronics Devices to Reach Over 230 Million by 2014

The Majority Deployed in North America and Europe

Scottsdale, Ariz., January 20, 2011 - The global installed base of web-enabled stationary consumer electronics (CE) devices is growing rapidly and includes a wide variety of devices.  Typically, web-enabled CE devices can execute widgets, small software application programs that directly access an online portal, such as Netflix, Amazon VOD, Pandora, or YouTube.  The development and use of Smart TV applications are expected to proliferate over the next five years and, as a result, web-enabled CE device shipments are expected to grow 6 fold, surpassing 230 million installed units by 2014, the majority of these in North America and Europe, says In-Stat.

Russian IPTV Market Reaches 374k Subscribers

Wellingborough, UK, Jan. 20, 2011--Preliminary results from the IMS Research study IPTV: A Global Market Analysis – 2011 Edition, reveal that the IPTV subscriber base in the emerging BRIC markets exceeds 8 million subscribers for 2010, with China dominating the figure.  A CAGR of 13% for BRIC is expected through the forecast period, which ends in 2015.

3D TV Forecast to Reach 91 Million Global Shipments in 2014

Santa Clara, Calif.  January 4, 2011--The availability of 3D content will remain the greatest determinant of the value of 3D TVs to consumers – and as a result its achievable premium in TV sets. 3D TVs were launched with much fanfare at IFA 2009, but a year ago at CES, the first real products reached the market. Since then, shipments have made steady, although slightly disappointing, progress. 2.1 Billion Over-the-Top (OTT) Devices to Ship

Wellingborough, UK, December 2, 2010--Over-the-Top (OTT) services have grown very popular over the last year and they will only get bigger considering the connectivity of home entertainment and portable CE devices. Based on a recently published study, Convergence in Home Entertainment and Portable CE Markets, IMS Research forecasts that over 2.1 billion connected devices will ship globally. This includes a forecast of 592 million fixed entertainment devices such as TV sets and game consoles, nearly 2 billion portable CE such as smartphones and tablets, and 268 million home network devices such as residential gateways.

Robust Telco TV Service Revenue Growth Seen in 3Q 2010

Singapore, November 17, 2010--According to the latest figures from ABI Research, global pay-TV service revenue totaled $55.5 billion during the third quarter of 2010, approximately a 9% increase from the same period in 2009.   Currently more than half of global telco TV service revenues come from Western Europe where telco TV penetration is already quite high, and net subscriber additions in the region are expected to slow due to that penetration. The result: telco TV’s market share in terms of subscriber numbers and service revenue is expected to decline in Western Europe in the coming years.

Global Pay-TV Market Served 692 Million Subscribers in 3Q-2010

Scottsdale, Ariz, November 4, 2010-In the third quarter of 2010, net subscriber additions in the global pay-TV market increased 2% over 2Q-2010 according to ABI Research’s recent pay-TV market data.   “The global number of pay-TV subscribers reached 692 million in the third quarter of 2010,” says ABI Research practice director Jason Blackwell. “Pay-TV subscriber growth is holding steady in a number of world regions.”

Connected CE and Mobile Devices to Account for 80% of Connected Homes by 2015

Amsterdam, Nov 2, 2010 – The composition of the connected home will shift dramatically in the next five years, with connected consumer electronics and mobile devices (mainly smartphones and tablet computers) comprising 80% of the seven billion connected nodes worldwide by 2015.  “The number of connected home nodes worldwide will grow to more than seven billion by year-end 2015,” said Kurt Scherf, VP, principal analyst, Parks Associates. “This market encompasses diverse stakeholders including managed service operators, CE manufacturers, content creators and aggregators, home networking chipset developers, and software and silicon vendors .”
