Irdeto Survey Reveals Top Piracy Contributors

Singapore, June 18, 2014--New research results from Irdeto announced at BroadcastAsia 2014  explores consumer consumption patterns of video content confirmed top two reasons why people turn to piracy: lack of content availability and concerns over price. Two in three consumers in Australia, India and Singapore indicated that they are either ‘neutral’, ‘unlikely’ or ‘extremely unlikely’ to watch pirated video content, the survey also showed that concerns over security issues and poor quality pirated videos are major impediments to piracy.

Mobile Internet Usage to Increase at Twice the Global Rate in 5 years in Sub-Saharan Africa

The June 2014 Sub-Saharan Africa Ericsson Mobility Report shows that in 2014 phone users accessed 76,000 TB (terabyte) of data per month, double the 2013  figure of 37,500 TB per month. In 2015 the figures are expected to double again with mobile phone users accessing 147,000 TB per month.

The Digital TV Middle East  & Africa Databook (covering 56 countries) estimates that digital TV penetration  will be 73.8% in the Middle East & North Africa (up from 64.3% in 2010) and 57.1%  in Sub-Saharan Africa (up from only 19.2% in 2010).
