Conviva Releases Report on State of Streaming: Asia
Foster City, Calif., September 15, 2020--Conviva repeased today the State of Streaming report focusing on Asia. While the world’s increase in viewing time raced ahead 63% in Q2 2020, Asia recorded the smallest gains, inching up 2% over the previous year, according to the report. Some of the highlights of the report's findings include:
- After peaking in February, Asia was the lone continent in the world to experience negative streaming growth at any point in 2020, declining 5% year over year in June.
- 4 out 5 Asian regions witnessed declines in viewing time growth as compared to the previous year.
- Only Southern Asia, including India, Iran, and Pakistan, tallied a rise in viewing, up 119% year over year.
- Global ad demand plummeted 28% in a single quarter, heavily impacted by COVID-19.
- Viewers in Asia experienced 24% less time spent waiting for buffering, 11% better picture quality and 5% fewer video start failures as compared to 2019.
- Asia was overwhelmingly a desktop market with 49% share while mobile phones dialed up second overall with a 37% share.
