World Teleport Association Releases "Cybersecurity for Teleport & Satellite Operators" Research Report
New York City, NY, July 21, 2015–The World Teleport Association (WTA) today announced the release of a new FourNines research report: Cybersecurity for Teleport & Satellite Operators.
In Cybersecurity for Teleport and Satellite Operations, WTA shares the insights of technology executives on both the operator and vendor sides of the fence about the current state of cybersecurity for teleports and satellite operators. It identifies the major risks, assesses how well the industry believes it is coping with them, and identifies best practices in securing the digital and physical infrastructure of the teleport.
According to interviewees, cybersecurity is rapidly becoming a dominant issue for service providers. Their satellite-terrestrial networks carry mission-critical communication for customers, and their systems include IP-addressable equipment that creates vulnerabilities at the same time it improves operating performance. Teleport and satellite operators are delivering services in a global economy where cybersecurity breaches and hacker attacks are accelerating at a great rate, with 94% of all organizations reporting that they had a security breach in the last 12 months.
“In our newest report, we ask a very important industry question: What is your cybersecurity plan?” said WTA Executive Director Robert Bell. “Today’s teleport is a data center with antennas, and both large and small operators have to develop an approach to cybersecurity that is appropriate, not only to the threats they face, but to the concerns of their customers and the resources they can bring to the problem. Whether the adversary is a hacker or an employee who gives away a password by mistake, constant vigilance has become the new requirement.”
