DISH Reports Increases in Net Income in 2Q 2015
Englewood, Colo., August 6, 2015 – EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS) today reported total revenue of US$ 794 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2015 compared to US$ 880 million for the corresponding period in 2014. Net income attributable to EchoStar common stock was US$ 33.9 million and diluted earnings per share was $0.36 for the quarter ended June 30, 2015, compared with net income attributable to EchoStar common stock of US $33.8 million and diluted earnings per share of $0.36 during the corresponding period in 2014.
For the six month period ended June 30, 2015, total revenue was US$ 1,592 million compared to $1,706 million for the six months ended June 30, 2014. Net income attributable to EchoStar common stock was US$ 67.3 million and diluted earnings per share was $0.72 for the six month period ended June 30, 2015 compared to net income attributable to EchoStar common stock of US$ 46.4 million and diluted earnings per share of $0.50 for the corresponding period in 2014.
At the close of the quarter, Dish Network had 13.9 million pay-TV subscribers, down from 14.05 million in the same period last year. During April through June, Dish added about 683,000 new subscribers, but net subscribers fell by 81,000.
However, those remaining customers paid more per month. Average revenue per userin Q2 rose more than 4% to $87.91, up from $84.15 a year ago. That's despite the lower monthly cost for Sling TV, which is a $20 monthly service with additional programming packages of $5-$6 monthly.
Dish also added about 4,000 broadband Internet subscribers, increasing its total Net subscribers to about 595,000.
