ETL Systems Acquires Atlantic Microwave
Madley, Herefordshire, UK, Jan. 15, 2019 – ETL Systems, a designer and manufacturer of RF equipment for satellite communications today announced it has acquired Atlantic Microwave, a provider of microwave components and satellite communication test equipment.
ETL Systems operates globally with manufacturing and R&D sites based in the UK. The UK facilities combined with offices in Washington DC and Dubai support the firm in serving customers in 112 countries. ETL’s key international clients include CNN, BBC, Airbus, Thales, General Dynamics, ESPN, DirectTV, Associated Press, Inmarsat, BAE Systems and SES Astra.
Ian Hilditch, CEO, ETL Systems, said “Atlantic Microwave offers a wide range of complementary RF products and a different customer base. We will be able to use our experience as a global manufacturer to support Atlantic around the world.” He added: “Atlantic is also very focused on customisation of its RF range and so it was a well aligned company to acquire.”
Based in Braintree, UK, Atlantic has specialist design, manufacture and test facilities and employs over 15 staff. Currently, the company distributes 14 different satellite communications product lines covering 10MHz to 110GHz, which includes test loop translators and satellite simulators.
With this shared focus on custom design and providing customer service that’s second to none, the acquisition will see Atlantic expanding its range of RF based products. Atlantic’s clients will also benefit from ETL’s engineering expertise covering RF, PCB and CAD design.

ETL designs and builds high performance satellite communications and Radio Frequency (RF) equipment, with a focus on customisation and customer service. In FY2017, 79% of sales were exports.
ETL’s products are generally used in satellite ground stations and include switch matrices, splitters, amplifiers, and RF over fibre links. Customers include governments, satellite operators, telecoms companies, and broadcasters. Eight of the top twelve NATO governments use ETL products to protect their citizens and fourteen of the top twenty global satellite operators also use ETL equipment.
With its dedicated in-house engineers based in Herefordshire, UK, ETL Systems has seen an average growth of 20 per cent in the last five years and has won three Queens Awards for International Trade.
Atlantic Microwave Ltd manufactures and supplies RF and Microwave equipment, components and interconnects to the Satcom, Telecommunications, Broadcasting, Aerospace, Defence and Scientific Research industries. Atlantic Microwave manufactures a comprehensive range of RF and microwave equipment, components and interconnects. It also serves as a UK sales representative for several select technology partners in the microwave and RF industry and a distributor and stockist of active, passive, and control microwave/RF components and interconnects.
