World Teleport Association Publishes New Report on Customer Preferences in the Enterprise Sector
Report provides insight into the buying preferences, issues and priorities of teleport customers in the enterprise sector
New York City, July 1, 2011– The World Teleport Association announced the release of its newest report, What Customers Want: Enterprise 2011. The report is a product of interviews conducted with senior decision-makers for teleport and satellite customers in the enterprise sector. Customers interviewed ranged from retail, maritime, and finance to communications carriers and nonprofit organizations.
According to the report, enterprise communications is a stable and recession-resistant business where satellite plays a vital role in specific niches. Two-thirds of respondents expected that their transmission requirements would increase in the next two years, driven by rising overall demand for connectivity and the increasing use of video, social networking and apps on smartphones and tablets. But service providers can hardly rest on their laurels: enterprise buyers use satellite where there is no alternative infrastructure or in situations – such as a retail network – in which satellite simplifies a complex management challenge. Customers may be “sticky” as a result but they are also dissatisfied with the limitations imposed by satellite technology.
WTA Executive Director Robert Bell notes, “According to the interviews, enterprise buyers are looking to build relationships with vendors that can provide integrated, end-to-end solutions. Furthermore, half of the enterprise buyers indicated that the recession had no impact on their communications operations while one-third said it had a positive impact. The key challenge for teleport operators, however, is that enterprise buyers would generally prefer not to be using satellite at all. It is a challenge that innovative service providers are rising to meet.”
What Customers Want: Enterprise is the second in an annual series, following the 2010 report What Customers Want: Media & Entertainment. The two reports provide an insider’s look into sales opportunities for teleport operators.
