Former CNES Leader, Pierre Omaly, Appointed Senior Technical Expert at Astroscale France
Toulouse, France, Feb. 12, 2025 – Astroscale France SAS, a subsidiary of Astroscale Holdings Inc., a provider of satellite servicing and long-term orbital sustainability across all orbits, announced the appointment of Pierre Omaly as Senior Technical Expert. A former technical leader at the Centre National d’Études Spatiales (CNES), Omaly brings over 20 years of expertise in space technology and innovation, particularly in the development of groundbreaking solutions to protect space and ensure its sustainability.
Omaly’s most recent position at CNES was as T4SC Project Manager, where he led the development of key technologies aimed at improving space sustainability. These included close-proximity rendezvous for docking systems, allowing spacecraft to securely attach, and a revolutionary detumbling system that prevents satellites from spinning uncontrollably at the end of their lifecycle. These advancements directly support the goal of reducing the complexity of space debris removal.
Pierre’s decision to join Astroscale stems from a desire to move beyond theoretical discussions into concrete actions. “For years, we have discussed the growing problem of space debris and its impact on space operations. However, despite numerous meetings, we were left debating without taking tangible steps,” said Pierre. “At Astroscale, I’m excited to transform these ideas into a viable solution for the industry.”
Astroscale is dedicated to creating effective and scalable debris removal solutions, and Pierre’s extensive experience in developing technologies that promote sustainability will be instrumental in meeting this goal according to the company.
Philippe Blatt, Managing Director of Astroscale France, commented: “Pierre’s appointment is a significant milestone in our efforts to accelerate the development of in-orbit servicing technologies. His wealth of experience and expertise will help drive Astroscale’s mission to address the pressing challenge of space debris, reinforcing our position as a leader in long-term orbital sustainability. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team and look forward to the value he will add to our efforts.”
“The sustainable future of space has always been a personal concern of mine. Joining the first private company focused on space debris remediation aligns perfectly with my values. I am inspired by Astroscale’s dedication to a sustainable space environment and hope it will encourage others in the industry to act,” said Omaly.
