OneWeb Names Adrian Steckel as CEO, Eric Béranger as President and COO

McLean, VA, Sept. 7, 2018 ― OneWeb, which is building the world’s highest throughput satellite system to enable affordable, high-speed, low latency broadband access for all has  announced the appointment of Adrian Steckel as Chief Executive Officer and Eric Béranger as President and Chief Operating Officer.

During Eric’s tenure as Chief Executive Officer, OneWeb grew five-fold and developed the technical foundation to launch its system. In his new role, as President and Chief Operating Officer, Eric will ensure that OneWeb’s innovative system of satellites and ground infrastructure can deliver high quality services to customer communities around the globe.

As OneWeb prepares for its first launch, Adrian will enable the company to focus on its next phase of growth, as it begins selling services to the marketplace.

Adrian brings extensive experience and passion for enabling connectivity to OneWeb. Since 1999, he has been building companies from the ground up and working to enable voice and data communications in countries around the world. Adrian was the CEO of lusacell, a very successful mobile carrier in Mexico, which he sold to AT&T in 2015. He also led the buildout and operations of the fiber backbones in both Colombia and Peru in cooperation with their respective governments and during his time as CFO at TV Azteca, he also took the company public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Adrian’s background in telecommunications and business operations, coupled with Eric’s expertise in engineering and systems development, will propel OneWeb closer to fulfilling its mission of bridging the digital divide.

OneWeb’s mission brings people from diverse backgrounds, across multiple disciplines, together to realize its vision of affordable, low latency broadband access for everyone. From satellite manufacturing and emerging market development to semiconductor design and orbital engineering, there are thousands working on the system across OneWeb and its many investors and suppliers, and the talent attracted to the project is nothing short of extraordinary.

“As OneWeb begins launching its system, Adrian’s international business, operations, and telecommunications experience will help him lead OneWeb into its next phase, becoming a global telecom operator and ultimately achieving its mission of helping to bridge the digital divide”, said Greg Wyler, Executive Chairman and Founder of OneWeb.

On his appointment, Adrian said “I have been on the board and an investor since OneWeb’s inception, and I am a firm believer in the company’s mission. There is nothing more exciting than working on something so meaningful.” He added that he looks forward to working in partnership with Eric and the whole team to make OneWeb a success.

Since its founding in 2012, OneWeb has made tremendous progress with more than $2 billion raised, satellites now in production, ground stations installed in multiple locations, and a global team working to ensure services can reach multiple markets. OneWeb is months from the launch of its first satellites and is on track to begin commercial services in 2020.
