Globecast Delivers All the Key moments of the UK Elections
London, UK, May 13, 2015 —Globecast, the global solutions provider for media, was central to the live coverage of the UK General Election, helping broadcasters around the world get all the key moments live on air. In total, 78 different counts were covered on the day for the major broadcasters, including Sky, the BBC, ITV, BBC Wales and C4.
In addition, Globecast provided the facilities for full multi-camera OBs at the Prime Minister David Cameron’s Witney constituency, Downing Street, Buckingham Palace and key counts in Sunderland and Newcastle. Support was also provided for OB trucks used by broadcasters from 11 countries: Italy, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain, Croatia, and of course the UK.
In all, Globecast’s efforts enabled live streams from134 cameras, including four Steadicam, nine jibs and three cranes. Over 24 km of cable and 162 camera operators were deployed on the night.
BBC Program Editor Sam Woodhouse said, “I was delighted to work with Globecast again. They were able to provide dozens of OBs of the highest quality. Their team faced huge logistic challenges to put together the hundreds of staff and mountains of kit required. It was an enormous task which they handled with breath-taking efficiency.”
Project Manager, Gary Champion, Globecast added, “This was a huge undertaking for what ended up being a remarkable day. To give you an idea of the sheer scale of events, we provided 65 IRD’s and full downlink systems off three satellites just to support the BBC alone. Based on our success, we have already been asked to provide 15 trucks for the Scottish Elections next May.”
