DTH and the Drive towards Hybrid

Cambrige, Mass. January 5, 2011--It seems like a natural progression to bring the Internet to every possible consumer electronics device available today, and the television set is no exception. Not to be left behind, many a DTH provider has provisioned Ethernet ports in the next generation of STBs, although the software and strategy to provide enhanced services may still be a few years away. As expected, North America and Western Europe are leading this market as viewers in these regions become more particular about what content they want as well as where and when they want it. Strategies in both of these markets are somewhat different though with DTH operators in North America building their own proprietary online platforms, while their European counterparts opt for the HbbTV standard.

Two Billion Covered by 3G and 4G Data Services

Web-Enabled TV Sets in China to Ship in Excess of 15 Million Units by 2014

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., November 23, 2010 - China’s web TV market kicked off in 2009, with over 2 million web TV set shipments and about 1/4 million web TV set top box (STB) shipments. The fast development of the web TV market is driven by competition between the giant domestic TV vendors and the low incremental cost for web TV functionality, helping drive wider user acceptance, according to In-Stat.

Global Economic Crisis has Little Effect on Satellite Capacity Leasing Market

CAMBRIDGE, MA - November 9, 2010 - According to NSR’s just released Global Assessment of Satellite Supply and Demand, 7th Edition study, the worst global economic crisis since The Great Depression did little to slow down the worldwide commercial satellite capacity leasing market. NSR's study estimates the industry picked up over $400 million in new leasing revenues in 2009, reaching US$9.7 billion as of the end of the year. Further, results so far in 2010 indicate the sector could add another US$500 million or more this year alone and increase total commercial satellite capacity leasing revenues by US$6.6 billion over the ten-year period between 2009 and 2019.

Pay TV Piracy: A Global Challenge

Euroconsult Maintains Positive Outlook on Satellite Industry Growth

Paris, August 2, 2010--Despite a limited market slowdown, the fixed satellite market reached a new high in revenues last year, according to Euroconsult’s soon-to-be-released report “Satellite Communications & Broadcasting Markets Survey, Forecasts to 2019.” The fixed satellite sector grew both in terms of transponder demand (+5.3%) and revenue reaching $10.3 billion revenue in 2009. The company maintains a positive outlook for the future of the industry. Television broadcasting and emerging markets continue to be the primary growth drivers, with satellite broadband service (“BBS”) systems contributing to growth as well.

Satellite Backhaul Continues to Benefit from Blistering Wireless Subscriber Growth
