Satellite 2020 To Go On as Scheduled
Washington, D.C., March 5, 2020--Satellite 2020, the industry's premier event will go on as scheduled from Monday, March 9-12 according to the organizers. Booth set-up begins today. "We confirm that SATELLITE 2020 will take place as planned. Our duty to the community is to foster an environment that encourages business discussions among many sectors and continue progression of innovation in the satellite and space industries," said show director Lindsay Fuller.
The organizers issued a statement on March 4, which says as follows:
"The satellite industry has always been a resilient community that has come together at the SATELLITE Conference and Exhibition to make headlines, announce product launches and progress the business of the satellite and space industry. At the 2020 event, we still expect an active gathering of satellite professionals who want to connect with partners and business prospects and appreciate those who are supporting the community at SATELLITE. There is continued activity among those who will be in DC next week:
-
In the past 7 days, 1,377 people have registered to attend SATELLITE
- Of these registrants, 44% are first-timers to SATELLITE
- 113 members of the press will be in attendance at SATELLITE
- We’ve launched our mobile app and are already seeing meetings scheduled and connections made.
- More than 280 speakers have confirmed their participation in the conference, including our Monday Keynote, Elon Musk.
At this time, only a handful of industry companies out of 331 exhibitors and sponsors and fewer than 40 people out of more than 11,000 conference attendees, have made the decision not to participate at SATELLITE 2020 due to travel bans. While we regret the absence of their attendance, we respect their decision, and will miss them at our annual gathering.
SATELLITE 2020 will continue to follow the guidance of the CDC and the WHO. As we have previously outlined, we have consulted with the convention center, hotels and our vendors to implement the following precautions during the event to prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Increased cleaning and disinfection across all high-volume touchpoints, e.g. catering areas, surfaces, handrails, restrooms, entrances/exits, public touch-screens, etc. along with the use of correct cleaning/sanitizing materials and products.
- Increased hand sanitizer stations throughout the convention center.
- Face masks will be made available for those wishing to use them. As supplies may be limited and provided on a first come first served basis, we also recommend you bring your own onsite.
- Microphone windscreens will be replaced between each speaker, and battery packs wiped down.
- Awareness and training to all staff on standard personal preventative measures, e.g. personal hygiene, frequency of use of sanitizing/disinfection products, etc.
- Advice to exhibitors on implementing effective cleaning and disinfection of stands, offices along with guidance on personal hygiene measures and common preventive behavior."
