25% of US Consumers Intend to Purchase Smartphones and HDTVs in the First Half of 2012

Scottsdale, Ariz., April 20, 2012--Smartphones and media tablets continue to capture headlines while consumer electronic devices continue to see healthy interest from consumers. 25% of US respondents to ABI Research’s Technology Barometer survey said they intend to purchase a smartphone during the first half of 2012 - a percentage equaled by HDTVs. Additionally, more respondents intend to purchase Blu-ray players (17%) and game consoles (18%), rather than media tablets (16%).

Video Infrastructure Market Tops US $800 million in 2011

The RFID Market Will Be Worth over $70 Billion across the Next Five Years, Says ABI Research

London, UK, April 16, 2012-The market for RFID transponders, readers, software, and services will generate $70.5 billion from 2012 to the end of 2017. The market was boosted by a growth of $900 million in 2011 and the market is expected to grow 20% YOY per annum. Government, retail, and transportation and logistics have been identified as the most valuable sectors, accounting for 60% of accumulated revenue over the next five years.

Over 25% of Video Viewing Occurs on Platforms Other Than TV

The average Pay-TV Subscription in the U.S. is $86; Projected to Increase to $200 by 2020

Port Washington, NY, April 10, 2012 – According to The NPD Group, the average pay-TV subscription for basic pay-TV service and premium-TV channels in the U.S. reached $86 in 2011. As TV program licensing fees have risen, pay TV monthly rates have also grown an average of 6 percent per year, even as consumer household income has remained essentially flat. If nothing changes, NPD expects the average pay-TV bill to reach $123 by the year 2015 and $200 by 2020.

38% of All U.S. Households Have Connected TVs

Durham, NH, April 9, 2012 -- New consumer research from Leichtman Research Group, Inc. (LRG) finds that 38% of all households have at least one television set connected to the Internet via a video game system, a Blu-ray player, an Apple TV or Roku set-top box, and/or the TV set itself -- up from 30% last year, and 24% two years ago. Video game systems are the key connected devices, as 28% of all households have a video game system connected to the Internet. Just 4% of all households are connected solely via an Internet-enabled TV set, and Apple TV or Roku set-tops are the only connected devices in 1% of all households.

Nearly 1 Billion Smart Connected Devices Shipped in 2011 with Shipments Expected to Double by 2016

Asia-Pacific Fixed Broadband Revenue to Reach $92.2 Billion in 2017

Singapore, April 2, 2012--The worldwide fixed broadband market continues to grow, despite a surge in mobile broadband adoption. The number of fixed broadband subscribers reached 586.7 million in 1Q 2012, generating service revenue of $47.7 billion. In 1Q 2012, Asia-Pacific was alone in adding nearly seven million subscribers, most notably by net subscriber additions in China.
