Terrasat Launches Advanced Ka-band IBUCs, Expanding Multi-Orbit Connectivity Options

Morgan Hill, Calif., November 7, 2024–Terrasat Communications Inc., a long-standing provider of satellite communication solutions for block upconverters and high-power amplifier technologies, introduces its newest lineup of Ka-band Intelligent Block Upconverters (IBUCs), designed to deliver enhanced flexibility for multi-orbit connectivity. The IBUC G and IBUC 2G models meet the evolving demands of modern satellite networks, supporting single, dual, and tri-band operations across frequencies from 27.5 to 31.0 GHz.

Engineered for versatility, the IBUC G and IBUC 2G offer selectable multiband frequencies with power options ranging from 5W to 160W, making them ideal for telecom and network hubs. Both models incorporate Terrasat’s Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, which enhances power efficiency and reduces signal losses in challenging environments. These GaN amplifiers provide significant energy savings and improved performance by allowing direct antenna mounting and eliminating waveguide loss.

“Our Ka-band IBUCs allow operators to expand connectivity options while maintaining high-performance standards,” said Caio Chamma, Global Product Manager at Terrasat Communications Inc. “The design of the Ka-band IBUCs maximizes output power and achieves unmatchable phase noise, ensuring the maximum usability of the output power and efficient operation for multicarrier applications. It also features an optional internal 10MHz reference with high stability and low aging rates – reducing the need for periodic tuning and preventive maintenance while providing the best signal quality. The references come with auto-detection of external references, which ensures reliable signal quality and seamless failover. This product line also features selectable input frequencies, delivering compatibility to all Ka-Band modems available in the global market.”

“Our Ka-band IBUCs provide operators with expanded connectivity options and high performance,” said Caio Chamma, Global Product Manager at Terrasat Communications Inc. “With low (excellent) phase noise, the design of the Ka-band IBUCs enables operators to use higher power levels on the same units, supporting increased symbol rates (the rate of data transmission) and efficient multicarrier applications. The units feature an optional internal 10 MHz reference with high stability and low aging rates, which reduces the need for periodic tuning and preventive maintenance while ensuring strong signal quality. Additionally, auto-detection of external references guarantees seamless operation and minimal risk of signal loss, while selectable input frequencies allow compatibility with Ka-band modems worldwide.”

Both models have advanced monitor and control capabilities to ensure an intuitive user interface and are compatible with optional system features, including Cyber-hardened, 1+1 and 1+2 transmit redundancy. Designed to integrate easily with existing systems, the units offer flexibility with AC and DC input options and multiple connector types. The IBUC G also supports single-, dual-, and tri-band frequency plans, addressing diverse operational requirements.

With the IBUC G and IBUC 2G Ka-band models, Terrasat Communications strengthens its product portfolio, offering operators enhanced flexibility as multi-orbit networks continue to expand. These advancements highlight the company's commitment to supporting the critical needs of today’s satellite infrastructure.
