The Cloud with the ‘Satellite‘ Lining

London, UK, December 20, 2010-As noted in my column last month, the program for the recent GVF Oil & Gas Communications conference in Kuala Lumpur included a session entitled Cloud Computing and Future Oil & Gas Industry Networking.  This was the first time the topic of the Cloud had been introduced to any of the GVF-EMP vertical market-focused series of conferences, though not the first time that a Cloud-related topic had been included in one of the GVF’s horizontal-market events – specifically the MENASAT Summit held at the time of the Satellite MENA exhibition during the first quarter of 2010, where satellite Wide Area Network (WAN) optimization was investigated from the point of view of improving bandwidth-usage efficiencies.

IEEE GLOBECOM 2010 Explores Latest Advancements in Mobile Interactivity

SATCON 2010 Highlights the New Multiplatform Media Environment

GVF Maritime Satcom Forum

This new working group, being spearheaded by the GVF, includes the top manufacturers, network operators and service providers in the industry.

CASBAA Convention 2010 to Focus on Digital Content Delivery

Hong Kong, August 4, 2010-- The CASBAA Convention 2010 to be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong on October 25th – 28th will be focusing on digital content delivery. BBC Trust Chairman Sir Michael Lyons to Keynote IBC 2010

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, August 4, 2010--The opening plenary session of the IBC2010 conference will feature an address by Sir Michael Lyons, the chairman of the BBC Trust, on the future of public service broadcasting. The session also includes keynote addresses by Yoshinori Imai, vice president of Japanese national broadcaster NHK, and by Ingrid Deltenre, director general of the European Broadcasting Union. All three will be subject to questioning from leading media journalist and commentator Raymond Snoddy.

How Green is Your Teleport?

Despite the disappointments of the Copenhagen climate talks, climate change is fast becoming a reality for business.  It is partly a matter of planning for the future.  The political battles rage on, taking different paths in different parts of the world, but the overall trend is clear.  Activities that produce greenhouse gases will be penalized economically.   More efficient use of resources from energy to water will become a high priority.  Companies face a choice of when, not if, to “go green.”

US Navy ‘s Satcoms Demand Will Continue to Grow

At the 4th Annual Navy Satcoms Users Workshop organized by  the Satellite Industry Association (SIA) during the AFCEA West show in San Diego last February 3rd, senior U.S. Navy officials affirmed that the US Navy’s reliance on commercial satellite communications will continue to grow in the next few years.
