Global Pay TV revenues Hit $184 billion in 2012

London, UK, July 2, 2013--The number of pay TV households (analog and digital) reached 772 million by  2012, up from 585 million in 2008, according to a new report from Digital TV Research. Asia Pacific increased by 126 million – or two-thirds of the global  additions - during this period to bring its total to 433 million. North America (112 million) was the second largest region, although it only added 4 million.

Nearly 100 million Pay-TV Subscribers in Latin America by 2018

Buenos Aires, Argentina, July 1, 2013--According to the analysis by Dataxis, the Pay-TV market of the seven biggest markets of Latin America will total 98.32 million subscribers in 2018. This figure will equal to a penetration of 68.1% over the total of Homes with TV; almost 3.6 times what was registered in 2008.

Revenues from Cellular Backhaul in Fast-growing Economies Could Reach $1.1 billion by 2023

Paris, France, June 26, 2013-According to Euroconsult's recently published executive brief, "Prospects for Cellular Backhaul in Fast-Growing Economies": The market of cellular backhaul over satellite has been a vibrant vertical segment for the satellite sector in the second half of the last decade, with strong growth observed in all emerging regions. While Sub-Saharan Africa has been the largest historical market for cellular backhaul, accelerated growth has been observed in recent years in a variety of countries such as India, Brazil and Indonesia. The number of sites using satellite backhaul more than tripled between 2007 and 2012 to reach close to 16,000 sites for a satellite capacity use of around 15.6 GHz.

Decline in Copper Broadband Subscribers in 2013

London, UK, June 26, 2013--At the end of 2012, broadband analyst firm Point Topic reported that subscriber numbers for copper-based broadband services had fallen for the first time, with 415k subscribers lost in the fourth quarter. New figures reported by Point Topic show that this decline has accelerated in 2013, with 2.77m copper broadband subscribers lost in the first three months of the year. ‘Copper-based’ services include all DSL, ADSL and ADSL2+ subscribers reported by operators across the world. Point Topic’s database of subscriber numbers also includes cable subscriber numbers, FTTx/VDSL and FTTH.

Vietnam’s Pay-TV Situation “Vastly Improved”

Hong Kong, June 25, 2013--A CASBAA spokesman commented on the favorable evolution of the situation in Vietnam’s pay-TV market in recent weeks. Following a period of confusion after new pay-TV regulations came into force on May 15, most international TV channels (including major global news channels) have been restored to all pay-TV platforms in Vietnam (subject to appropriate commercial contracts and operational arrangements).
